Wake to butter-lamp smoke and monks debating in the Dalai Lama's courtyard, then walk ten minutes into deodar forest where the Dhauladhar rises straight off the Kangra valley. Afternoons are steamed momos and cake on a McLeodganj rooftop; mornings, if you're game, are the switchback climb to Triund for sunrise on the snowline.

A 9 km climb from McLeodganj to a grassy ridge at around 2,850 m, where tents and a forest rest house sit right under the Dhauladhar wall.
