Colonial spires, deodar forests and first snow
Shimla
Shimla still wears its British summer-capital past on its sleeve: a neo-Gothic church on an open ridge, cast-iron lamp posts, tin roofs stacked down the hillside. Walk Mall Road at dusk when the deodars smell of resin and the bakeries are warm, then climb to Jakhoo at dawn. In winter, the whole slope goes white.
